The Pittsburgh Center for the Arts is the expert in all things related to creative expression. They have a large amount of classes available for adults and children. But play close attention to their Open Studio classes. You do have to register for these classes, but they are designed to provide a great artistic experience without the need to sign up for a weekly class.

This art studio located in the Point Breeze neighborhood of Pittsburgh has a lot to offer anyone who is looking to create their own one of a kind art. They offer classes and camps for kids, but also offer open studio time for a spontaneous activity. During Drop In studio time, a featured project will be offered each week. But old favorites will continue to be included as well such as painting and collaging.

Of course the Carnegie Museum of Art would be a great place to visit for anyone interested in beautiful art. But one might be surprised to see the great opportunities the museum has for children to make masterpieces of their own! Drop in Gallery activities occur on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:30 to 4:30pm. You will want to look for the ArtVentures signs to guide you to the fun!
Additionally, the museum now offers Saturday Art Classes for ages 5-7 and 8-10. The classes are two hours long and take place over four consecutive Saturdays. Check the link here for more information.

The Mattress Factory

The Mattress Factory is a unique and awe inspiring place. They are leaders in alternative forms of art, incorporating things like video and performance art into their exhibits. It is also a family friendly place as well. Every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month from 1-4pm they offer ArtLAB. This drop in experience allows visitors of all ages to explore, experiment, and play in the studio with inspiration from current exhibits. They also have a special experience for their smallest guests! Mini-Factory is geared toward ages 3-5. This experience is hands on and interactive for small children and their parents. Mini- Factory does require advanced registration.
